Spring is finally here and it’s time to begin our annual spring cleaning routine. Spring cleaning is especially vital for households with members that may have major allergies. It’s the best way to ensure you and your family can relax peacefully in your own home without the fear allergies.
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be so dreadful as long as you follow these 10 simple tips!
1. Plan Ahead
Planning your cleaning schedule ahead of time will make your cleaning routine more manageable and less intimidating.
Start by planning which part of your house you’d want to start with. We recommend on making a checklist of areas you need to clean and start with areas in your home that you tend to skip cleaning as that’ll be an area that may need to pay extra attention.
Once you’ve made a plan of which areas you’d like to start with, start planning what cleaning supplies you may need to gather for different parts of your home, but remember to try to be environmentally conscious when picking cleaning chemicals.
2. Clear the Decks
Before you start deep cleaning, start by de-cluttering your surroundings to make the cleaning process less stressful and more efficient. Tidy up the pile of messy laundry, re-organise your drawers and dust your shelves.
Studies have shown that a cluttered and disorganised home can lead to added stress and reduces the ability to focus, so clearing out your home from any mess can really make your spring cleaning experience more enjoyable and efficient.

Microfibre towels are also a more environmentally conscious choice compared to disposable wipes as you’re creating less waste as you clean.
5. Don’t Forget to Clean the Walls & Windows
Cleaning our floors may be a common part of our cleaning routine, but many of us don’t really pay much attention to our walls and windows. We may not see it, but dust and debris don’t just settle on our floors, but also our walls and windows.
It’s good to give your walls and windows a wipe down with a damp cloth and make sure to steam and vacuum curtains and blinds.
6. Think Green When You Clean
When starting a new season, you’d want to start on a clean slate. Exposing yourself to harmful chemicals and toxins while cleaning is probably not the best thing to do. Not only is it harmful for us, but it’s also destroying our environment.
When looking for cleaning chemicals, look for products that are natural and proven to be less harmful to the environment.
7. Don’t Let Allergies Stand in Your Way
During the winter, dust and debris will most likely settle on furniture and fixtures. If you suffer from allergies or are using heavy-duty cleaners, be sure to read the labels before use. We also recommend you stay protected by wearing rubber gloves, masks, and scarves. Protective clothing will help guard against skin irritations and allergic reactions.
8. Freshen Up Carpets & Rugs
Carpets and rugs are a breeding ground for dust and microscopic particles. Unlike wooden or tiled floors, carpets are a lot harder to clean and can get dirty quite quickly. As a result, it may leave an unpleasant smell and can increase the likelihood of causing allergies in the household.
An easy way to clean your carpets and rug is to simply use a carpet shampoo and vacuum regularly. You can even add a few drops of your favourite essential oil for an extra fresh touch.
9. Don’t Be Afraid of Your Kitchen & Bathroom
Kitchens and bathrooms are areas that require more attention as bacteria tend to build up in these areas and can effect your health if not cleaned properly.
In your kitchen, make sure to pay more attention to appliances that you use the most. These include appliances such as your microwave, fridge, and oven as they tend to build grease and grime over time.
High-touch surfaces such as counter tops and stoves are also areas to pay attention to as bacteria can be transferred from our hands and personal belongings.
In your bathroom, make sure you change your shower curtains and clean areas that tend to get damp. These spaces could tend to build up bacteria and mould if not cleaned properly. You’d also want to clean out your drawers and cabinets and dispose any unused or expired products.
10. Call for Backup
Make spring cleaning fun by getting your family or housemates involved. Even the most unwilling helper can make a big difference in the workload.
